30'-high serpentine VS1 atrium wall with 60' curvature radius

The VS1 system was used as the main facade system for this extension to the existing hospital. The new space created a large welcoming atrium entrance for incoming patients. The double curved wall clear spans 30ft and follows a serpentine floor plan created by a 60ft radius of curvature; the wall form transitions from a concave to a convex profile seamlessly. The standard VS1 kit of parts achieved the curving walls without additional cost due to the lack of horizontal framing which completely eliminated the highly custom miter cuts and connections required by conventional curtain wall systems. The wall was engineered to an L/110 deflection limit.
