Acoustic Isolation
VS1 has been selected for multiple projects that require high levels of acoustic isolation. Our technology has been reviewed by acoustic engineers, and the mullion and glazing properties have been found to be very effective for this application.
The VS1 kit of parts also includes a partition extrusion to decrease sound propagation between both floor slabs as well as adjacent rooms, first implemented at Gordon Parks Art Hall. Another major difference between VS1 and conventional systems is the increased wall thickness of the VS1 mullion, which lessens sound propagation. The addition of a laminated interlayer to the glass makeup allows further sound reduction, a strategy that is often employed in recital halls, performing arts centers, and airport concourse facades.
Finally, the implementation of dual wall designs with large airspaces is an excellent approach for increasing acoustic isolation, as evidenced by the Mary Galvin Recital Hall at Northwestern University.
