40' south-facing facade
Jumbo VS1 mullions & offset glass grid
The new HOK-designed headquarters of Consumer Credit Union features several VS1 installations: Running the length of the building is an offset glass joint grid supported by 40’-high jumbo VS1 mullions.
This job had a condition in which the VS1 mullions bypassed an intermediary slab; IG overcame a slab edge and fire safing conditions as well as accommodating a shadowbox detail.
FROM THE ARCHITECT HOK
❝Taking advantage of Michigan’s fall and winter sunlight, the interior revolves around a three-story atrium along the building’s south side. This daylit space serves as the heart of the office, encouraging transparency and connectivity.
The material palette of brick, metal, glass and concrete lends a simplicity to the composition. The southern facade is a minimal glass curtain wall that maximizes views and light and reinforces the verticality of the forest. The north brick facade builds on the regional vernacular and makes use of the heavier material to offer protection from winter winds.❞
